about us
The Institute for Zoo Architecture offers a comprehensive overview of current trends in animal facility construction. Its goal is to raise awareness among decision-makers and the 1.4 billion annual visitors about the significance of zoos and aquariums as hubs for nature-related knowledge. The Institute plans to engage in ongoing publication, enhance global networks, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, participate in international discussions on the future of zoos, contribute to conferences, and initiate and research various topics. By working together, we can help preserve species diversity in zoos and advance conservation efforts, with architecture playing an increasingly vital role.
The Institute for Zoo Architecture is active in the field of planning on two consulting levels: The first level deals with large-scale planning and ranges from framework plans and master plans to detailed building concepts for zoos and aquariums. The second area deals with existing buildings. This field of work is concerned with conservation reports and building documentation in the context of remodelling measures as well as responsible action in the conservation assessment, documentation and archiving of planning material. This can become particularly important if buildings no longer meet today’s requirements for species-appropriate animal husbandry.
